SNOW SNOW SNOW

It is still snowing this morning! Right now the temperature is 16 degrees but it feels like minus 1 when you take the wind chill factor into consideration.  Right now we have at least 18 inches of snow on the ground I would think.  It looks really pretty outside.  Gary shoveled a few times already.  The local airports have cancelled hundreds of flights.  Mayor Blumberg said that it would cost approximately $1 million dollars an inch to take care of snow removal.  We are all comfy and warm at home today.  They say we should end up with about 20 inches of snow.  I think we will get more.

Staten Island, NY ...A BLIZZARD WARNING CONTINUES UNTIL 12 NOON EST THIS AFTERNOON... ...SNOWFALL IMPACTS... SNOW WILL CONTINUE ACROSS THE AREAS INTO THE MORNING HOURS BEFORE TAPERING OFF BY EARLY IN THE AFTERNOON. SNOWFALL RATES OF 1 TO 2 INCHES PER HOUR WILL BE FOUND IN THE HEAVIEST BANDS OF SNOW. STORM TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS WILL RANGE FROM 12 TO 18 INCHES. ...WIND IMPACTS... EAST TO NORTHEAST WINDS WILL CONTINUE TO INCREASE EARLY THIS MORNING...REACHING SPEEDS OF 30 TO 35 MPH WITH SOME GUSTS IN EXCESS OF 45. THIS WILL CAUSE CONSIDERABLE BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF THE SNOW...LOWERING VISIBILITIES TO NEAR ZERO AT TIMES. THE HIGH WINDS MAY ALSO CAUSE TREE LIMBS AND POWER LINES TO BE DOWNED...RESULTING IN LOCALIZED POWER OUTAGES. WIND CHILLS WILL DROP TO AS LOW AS ZERO TO 5 BELOW THIS MORNING. ...ACTION STATEMENTS... THE COMBINATION OF THE SNOWFALL AND WINDS WILL CREATE BLIZZARD CONDITIONS AT TIMES THROUGH EARLY SUNDAY AFTERNOON. TRAVEL WILL BE DIFFICULT AT BEST...AND IS HIGHLY DISCOURAGED. VENTURING OUT OF DOORS WILL BE DANGEROUS DUE TO THE NEAR ZERO VISIBILITIES AND LOW WIND CHILLS. YOU CAN BECOME LOST OR DISORIENTED VERY QUICKLY IN WHITEOUT CONDITIONS.
